Manistique, MI – The Schoolcraft County Economic Development Corporation (EDC)

held its regular meeting on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, where members voted in

new officers for the upcoming term. The EDC remains dedicated to fostering economic

growth, supporting local businesses, and enhancing community development throughout Schoolcraft County.

The newly elected officers for the Schoolcraft County EDC are:

  • Greg Schuetter – Chairperson

  • Boris Martysz – Vice Chairperson

  • Irma González-Hider – Secretary

  • Bonnie Garvin – Treasurer

In addition to the officers, the EDC Board of Directors includes:

  • Cathy Rohde – Director

  • Dan Hoholik – Director

  • Jim Weber – Director

  • Paul Walker – Director

The EDC is also taking the initiative to reestablish Schoolcraft County’s Brownfield

Redevelopment Authority, an important step toward revitalizing underutilized or

contaminated properties for future development. This initiative aims to attract new

investment, improve property values, and stimulate economic growth in the region.

Additionally, there is currently one open board seat on the EDC. Interested candidates

are encouraged to submit a letter of interest to the Schoolcraft County Commissioners

and email a copy to Victoria George at vgeorge@discovermanistique.com.

The EDC is pleased to welcome two new board members who were recently appointed

and bring valuable experience to the organization:

  • Boris Martysz, Sr. Commercial Lender at Nicolet National Bank, expressed his interest in joining the EDC Board, highlighting his commitment to serving

Schoolcraft County and leveraging his financial expertise to support local

economic development. His experience in commercial lending will help facilitate

business growth and access to capital in the region.

  • Greg Schuetter, Vice President of Commercial Lending at Peoples State Bank in

Munising, MI, has also submitted his formal letter of intent. As a lifelong resident

of Schoolcraft County with 17 years of experience in commercial lending,

Schuetter is eager to contribute to the economic growth of the area. His financial

background and dedication to local businesses make him a valuable addition to

the EDC Board. Schuetter has previously served on both the Schoolcraft County

EDC and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, bringing a wealth of experience to

his new leadership role.

"We are excited to move forward with a strong leadership team and key initiatives that

will create new opportunities for Schoolcraft County," said Greg Schuetter, Chairperson.

"By reestablishing the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, we are taking proactive

steps toward economic revitalization."

Victoria George, Executive Director of Schoolcraft Tourism & Commerce & EDC, expressed her enthusiasm for the new leadership: "We are thrilled to have Greg and

Boris join the board and step up into the Chair and Vice Chair positions. Their expertise

and dedication will be invaluable as we work to strengthen our local economy. The EDC

and the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority are focused on economic growth in

Schoolcraft County, and their leadership will play a key role in driving positive change."

The Schoolcraft County EDC welcomes collaboration with local businesses,

government entities, and community organizations to support business retention,
