Manistique, MI – February 5, 2025 – Schoolcraft Tourism & Commerce (STC) is proud

to present its 1st Dollar Award to Emerald City Tacos in recognition of their successful

first year in business. The presentation took place on February 5, 2025, celebrating the

vibrant addition of a Mexican restaurant to downtown Manistique.

Emerald City Tacos, owned by Bob and Debbie Johnson, opened its doors on February

6, 2024, with a vision to bring not only authentic Mexican cuisine to the community but

also to create a warm, cozy space where families and children can gather to enjoy

delicious meals and treats. Over the past year, the restaurant has become a beloved

spot for both locals and visitors alike.

Offering a diverse menu, Emerald City Tacos serves up flavorful breakfast options such

as Mexican breakfast burritos, coffee, and specialty items like buttermilk cranberry

pancakes. Throughout the day, customers can enjoy a variety of Mexican favorites,

including burritos, tacos, nachos, and quesadillas. Additionally, the restaurant offers an

assortment of baked goods such as apple dumplings, triple chocolate bundt cake, and

seasonal delights like pumpkin maple pecan bundt cake. They also offer Mexican soda

pop, which is a hit.

Committed to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, Bob and

Debbie have even cultivated their own garden to supply some of their produce. Their

homemade canned goods, including salsa and sweet and spicy relish, have become

popular items among customers. The restaurant also serves Mexican-themed soups

like tortilla soup, white spicy chili, and spicy cream of mushroom soup.

Beyond food, Emerald City Tacos features a selection of unique gift items, T-shirts,

sweatshirts, and plants, making it a welcoming space that extends beyond dining. The

restaurant’s inviting ambiance is a result of Bob’s dedicated renovations, which have

transformed the space into an authentic and cozy Mexican-inspired environment.

Reflecting on their first year, Bob and Debbie express their gratitude for the

overwhelming support from the community. From the loyal “breakfast buddies” who start their mornings there to the local workforce stopping in for lunch, the restaurant has built a strong customer base and become a staple in Manistique’s dining scene.

"We are incredibly grateful for the support from the local residents and are so happy to be a part of the downtown Manistique area" said Bob and Debbie Johnson. "We look forward to serving our customers for many years to come. Our motto is simple and convenient, and we strive to make every visit an enjoyable experience."

Schoolcraft Tourism & Commerce is thrilled to recognize Emerald City Tacos with this

milestone award, celebrating their contribution to the local economy and their

commitment to providing a welcoming gathering place for residents and visitors.

"Emerald City Tacos has truly enriched our downtown area with its delicious food and

inviting atmosphere,"; said Victoria George, Executive Director of Schoolcraft Tourism & Commerce. "Bob and Debbie Johnson’s commitment to quality and community

engagement has made a significant impact, and we are honored to present them with

this 1st Dollar Award."
